Regardless of the source of funds, all equipment purchased using IDOs are the property of the University of North Texas.
DeptIDs 41000 - 43205, 63000 - 63500, 70000 - 74000 -- Research Services must certify by countersigning the IDO form that equipment title vests with UNT and that they approve this purchase.
DeptIDs 604XX (Course Fees) -- Equipment will be used exclusively by students in a laboratory/classroom setting.
DeptIDs 604XX and 614XX - 618XX -- Use of funds from these DeptIDs requires that the responsible inventory DeptID be the same as the purchasing DeptID.
DeptIDs 614XX - 618XX (Special Service Fees) -- Equipment will be used to provide the services for which the fee is collected.
DeptIDs 76XXX’s (scholarships), 78XXX’s (loans), 79XXX’s (endowments), 90XXX’s (funds from outside agencies) – Cannot be used to purchase equipement.
DeptIDs 77XXX’s (restricted gifts) – Only if the individual DeptID was set-up to allow the purchase of computer equipment.

The standard warranty for Apple computers is 1 year. UNT purchases should include an extension of this warranty for a total of 3 years. Note: Apple computers may be purchased with a software warranty. However, since UNT centrally funds Apple software maintenance, an additional software warranty is unnecessary.
Apple computers that were already in UNT’s inventory as of 5/21/2007 are considered to have a 3-year warranty from the date of purchase, which is the “Acquisition Date” (as shown in EIS).

The standard warranty for Dells is 1 year. UNT purchases should include an extension of this warranty for a total of 3 years.
The warranty period for a UNT-built machine begins on the “Acquisition Date” (as shown in EIS) and lasts for 3 years.
A machine is fully supported (parts & labor) during the warranty period. MMS will continue to support a machine after the warranty expires until the machine reaches six years of age. During the period from end of warranty to six years, MMS may need to charge for replacement parts but not for labor.
Each day, all the computers that turn six years old on that day are removed from our support list. If you need support for a computer that just turned six years old, please give us a call. If it’s a simple fix and we have spare parts, we will still try to help!
