How do I access and use Unity mode?

  1. Start your VM in the VM Player.
  2. Once booted up, at the top of the VM Player window select "Virtual Machine" and then select the "Enter Unity" option.
    • If this option is greyed out, make sure you have VMware Tools installed. To install VMware Tools, click "Virtual Machine" and select "Install VMware Tools" at the bottom.
    • If VMware Tools are installed but "Enter Unity" is still greyed out, make sure the Virtual Machine is in your primary monitor and try again.

Why are my VM settings/files lost when I reboot?

If you lose your VM settings or any file you have edited within the VM after rebooting, you did not properly shut down your VM. Clicking the X in the top right corner of the VM puts it in a suspend state storing everything in the RAM. If you do this and reboot, a part of the reboot process is clearing the RAM and therefore clearing any changes you may have made.

How do I add an archive folder to Outlook 2010?

  1. Open Outlook. Click File and then click the Account Settings button and select Account Settings... from the drop-down menu .
  2. Select the Data Files tab and click the Add button.
  3. Navigate to your .pst file and click OK. You should now see your archive listed in the Mail pane on the left.

How do I edit the amount of RAM the VM uses?

If the VM is running slow, you can edit the amount of RAM the VM is utilizing from the VMware Player home screen.

  1. Select the VM you want to edit.
  2. Click ‘Edit virtual machine settings’ in the right pane.
  3. Memory should be selected by default. Move the slider in the right pane or manually type in a value for the amount of RAM you would like the VM to utilize
  4. DCS recommends a minimum of 2GB to a maximum of 4GB so that your host machine has enough free memory to operate as well.

How do I map a network drive?

  1. Click Start, and then click My Computer.
  2. At the top of the My Computer window, click Tools and select Map Network Drive...
  3. In the new dialog box that opens, select whichever letter you would like for this drive to be. In this example, I am mapping my Home drive so I will chose the drive letter H.
  4. In the Folder input box, type in the directory you wish to map. Remember, since the VM is not in Active Directory you must type the full address, e.g. \\citcwin1.unt.ad.unt.edu or \\citcwin2.unt.ad.unt.edu

How do I share a folder with my VM?

  1. To share a directory on the host machine, simply select any folder you wish to share between the VM and your machine. Feel free to create a new directory like “C:\Shared” to more easily keep track of your shared files.
  2. On the VMware Home screen select the VM and click ‘Edit virtual machine settings’.
  3. Then, click the ‘Options” tab at the top of the dialog box.
  4. Select the ‘Shared Folders’ setting in the left pane, and then select the ‘Always enabled’ bullet in the right pane.

How do I license the software in my VM?

By default, the following software is on a trial license:

  • UltraEdit
  • Golden
  • BeyondCompare
  • Snagit

This is to help the EIS licensing team keep up with all of the new machines and swapping of computers. In order to receive a license for your software, send license request to EIS Tarp (EIStarp@unt.edu).

How do I duplicate my VM?

  1. Navigate to the directory that contains the VM you want to duplicate.
    For example, C:\Virtual Machines\Windows XP
  2. Select the folder, for example ‘XP Pro x32 PeopleSoft’ and right-click Copy the VM. Now, right-click again and select Paste. A new folder should be created named ‘XP Pro x32 PeopleSoft – Copy’. Feel free to leave that as the folder’s name, or renamed it to your liking in order to distinguish it from the other VM(s).

How do I get the latest VM?

  1. Click Start and then click Computer
  2. In the address bar, navigate to \\citcadmin\Images\Virtual Machines
    1. If you are NOT in Active Directory, you must type the full address \\citcadmin.unt.ad.unt.edu\Images\Virtual Machines
  3. Copy the version you need, either our standard VM or PeopleSoft Tools VM to the C:\Virtual Machines directory on your computer.

How do I map network drives in Active Directory?

  1. Click Start, and then click Computer.
  2. At the top of the Computer window, click Map network drive
  3. If you are in Active Directory, simply type the directory in the Folder input box. Please refer to the Windows Server Directories below if necessary.
    1. If you are NOT in Active Directory, you must type the full address \\citcwin1.unt.ad.unt.edu or \\citcwin2.unt.ad.unt.edu
  4. Select which letter you would like for this drive to be labeled as. For example, if I am mapping my Home drive I would chose the drive letter H.
